Heavy Small Item Cartonization Playbook

Use this when a compact order weighs more than the usual package format is designed to carry. This playbook is for teams shipping dense parts, tools, books, hardware, or compact bundles.

Packout checklist

  1. Check total packed weight, closure strength, label adhesion, and whether the item can break through the wall.
  2. Confirm materials: corrugated boxes, void fill, carton sealing tape, packing slips.
  3. Keep three right-size carton families, filler within arm's reach, a scale, and a sample packed order at the bench.
  4. For heavy small item work, treat cartonization as a controlled operation: define the package spec, stage the right materials, and inspect the first completed orders before volume scales.
  5. Record the approved package size, finished weight, label position, and exception rule.

QA checks

  • Use a package format rated for the weight.
  • Reinforce closure where needed.
  • Check carrier weight label accuracy.
