Heavy Small Item Warehouse Readiness Playbook

Use this when a compact order weighs more than the usual package format is designed to carry. This playbook is for teams shipping dense parts, tools, books, hardware, or compact bundles.

Packout checklist

  1. Check total packed weight, closure strength, label adhesion, and whether the item can break through the wall.
  2. Confirm materials: cartons, mailers, labels, tape, void fill.
  3. Use fixed homes for every packaging SKU and audit replenishment points before the first pick wave.
  4. For heavy small item work, treat warehouse readiness as a controlled operation: define the package spec, stage the right materials, and inspect the first completed orders before volume scales.
  5. Record the approved package size, finished weight, label position, and exception rule.

QA checks

  • Use a package format rated for the weight.
  • Reinforce closure where needed.
  • Check carrier weight label accuracy.
